Charging System
The fundamental functions of a battery charger for electric vehicles etc. shall be as follows.
- Outputs DC power by converting AC power supplied from a commercial AC power source
- Supplies electric power at the voltage and current meeting the battery requirements (ratedvoltage, rated current, remaining capacity, etc.).
- Detects full charging of battery and stops charging.
To fulfill these functions, various types of battery charger have been commercialized.
AC normal rate charging system
The AC normal rate charging system is the most standard recharging method with a single-phase power of 200V which is available in ordinary households. There are two types of AC normal rate charging system, a conductive type and an inductive type. Conductive type battery charger uses charging coupler that has metal-to-metal contact. Inductive type battery charger uses charging coupler that has no metal-to-metal contact points but has the magnetic trans for power transfer.

The battery charger is classified into external and built-in types. As for the external type, only the inlet is required for the vehicle mounted part. |
The battery charger is divided into external and built-in areas, which gives it a compact size and lightweight. |
