Oze is a special preserve in
Nikko National Park and a special natural monument as well. The Oze Preservation
Foundation was established in 1995 to maintain Ozefs beautiful and important natural
environment for the future. The foundation organizes a summit in Oze every year.
The Gunma Prefectural Governor (the chairman of the foundation), the Fukushima
Prefectural Governor (the vice-chairman of the foundation), and representatives
of the Oze Tokyo Electric Power Company President gather together in Oze and exchange
opinions about Oze. This yearfs Oze summit was held on September 11th in Hinoematamura
in Fukushima prefecture. This was the first time that the summit had been held
in a village in Oze. |
Electric vehicle
trial
Gunma prefecture (Katashinamura) has several issues to resolve about Oze. Intensive
traffic to Hatomachi Pass by Oze mountaineers is one of the big issues to resolve.
(Because mountaineers can get to Hatomachi Pass by bus, traffic to Hatomachi Pass
became intense.)
At last year'fs summit, Gunma Prefecture proposed repairing the mountain road
from Oshimizu to Ichinose and starting public transportation with low emission
vehicles as a counter measure to the exhaust gases from diesel buses at Hatomachi
Pass.
Consequently, a test with electric vehicles was held at this year'fs summit for
participants and mountaineers, and they responded to questionnaires. (The test
location was the route from Oshimizu to Ichinose)
Gunma prefecture will study these responses to gauge the success of the trial.
